FAQ’s

What is a hackathon?

  • Playful, exploratory multi-hour computer programming event.  HackSPF is going to take place from 8:30 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Closing ceremonies will be starting at 1:00 PM.  Please plan to pick up your coder by 1:30 PM.

 

What kind of experience do I have to have?

  • No coding or programming experience is necessary. There are workshop tracks for beginner and intermediate coders. The core principle of HackSPF is learning!

 

Do I have to be from Scotch Plains-Fanwood to participate?

  • No! HackSPF is open to all 3rd through 12th grade students. However, capacity is limited to ensure a successful experience for everyone.

 

What do I need to participate?

  • An email account is required to participate.

  • This is a bring your own device event.  A computer running Windows, Mac OS, or Linux is highly recommended. Chromebooks are also usable.

  • Most importantly, bring your willingness to have fun learning to code!

 

How do I apply?

 

Will projects be judged?

  • Students will have the option to submit their projects to be judged. Students who submit their projects have the ability to win prizes. Coders will be encouraged to share their projects on the HackSPF event online project gallery.

Will lunch be served?

  • Pizza and light snacks will be provided.  Please send your coder with a water bottle.
